KHAN YUNIS, GAZA—Having enjoyed a much-needed break from the constant coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, local Gazan Amir Najjar told reporters Monday he felt refreshed after taking the weekend to unplug from the news. “Seeing all these videos of bombs killing innocent people can be stressful, so to clear my head of all the chaos online, I decided to just go for a walk outside among the rubble and dead bodies,” said Najjar, adding that he was feeling more relaxed after giving himself a couple days to recharge by shutting out all the arguments on Twitter over who was to blame for the most recent bombing he had seen kill hundreds of Palestinians. “Self-care is important. Exposing yourself to all the death and destruction that’s on TV and social media can really take a toll on your mental health, so it was nice to allow myself the time to sit quietly, take shelter, and listen to nothing but the sound of continuous explosions all over the city. It was also a great excuse to focus on getting some things done around the charred crater that used to be my house.” Najjar went on to state that he was now feeling rejuvenated and ready to get back online to find out how many deaths of friends and family he had missed.
